In this episode, Steve talks with Georgia Lee Hussey of Modernist Financial in Portland, Oregon. Georgia founded Modernist Financial five years ago after becoming a CFP and transitioning from a career in the arts.
Prior to her work as a financial planner, Georgia was a sculptor, writer, and performance artist. After a decade as a professional artist, she realized she needed financial stability, but had no clue how to get there. So, she set about educating herself. Along the way, she found that what she really wanted to do was help others take control of their finances, too.
While her training in the arts might not seem like an obvious background for a financial advisor, it was precisely those experiences that lead her to the financial industry and gave her unique insight into the people she wanted to serve.
Georgia talks with Steve about how financial advice has evolved, and how clients want to be engaged. She also discusses her role as a holistic planner, and how she creates purpose and meaning in her work.
”Where I see an opportunity for change and growth in the industry is to get out of this space where we preordain the results that we think are successful, and rather help people navigate forward into what is right for them.” ~ @Georgia Hussey
