The Admired Advisor Podcast

Jun 20, 2020

In the inaugural episode of The Admired Advisor, Steve Atkinson talks with Maureen McShane, CEO of Capital Investment Management, about productivity, transitioning, and creating great client experiences.

As a financial advisor serving more than 120 families, Maureen has a lot of experience to share. She runs a legacy firm that was passed on to her from her parents and now includes her own daughter as well. And she does it all from a farm in Maryland.

Maureen went to school for elementary education and she has built her approach to advising with the same principles in mind—if she can leave her clients a little more educated than when they arrived, she’s been successful.

In this episode, we talked about how Maureen creates her ideal week, transitioning her firm to a farmhouse, being prepared for your clients, and more!

”When I was starting to take a look at my ideal week, it took me a couple of weeks of deciding what's really important to me and putting those big rocks in first so that my own specific needs and values were met. What do I need to do for my clients? And when do I actually want to do that? When am I at my best?” ~ @maureencim

Main Takeaways

  • It's imperative to be prepared and anticipate client concerns. Even during crises, check in on your clients and make sure they continue to be well.
  • Plan out your ideal week and think about what’s truly important to you. This will help you decide where to spend your time and where to let things go that aren’t contributing to your ideal environment.
  • Having an accountability partner or sounding board can help you stay on track with your schedule and goals.
